Concrete Slab & Foundation Work
Strong foundations built right the first time for residential and commercial projects.

The Foundation of Every Structure
Your foundation is literally what holds everything up. Whether you're building a new home, adding a garage, or constructing a shed or workshop, the concrete slab needs to be done right. Cutting corners here causes problems that are expensive and difficult to fix later. We've seen plenty of failed foundations over the years, and they all share the same issue: poor installation from contractors who didn't know what they were doing or rushed the job.
A proper foundation starts with understanding the soil conditions on your property. Different soils require different preparation. Clay soil behaves differently than sandy soil, and we adjust our approach based on what we find. We also consider drainage, load requirements, and local building codes. These aren't optional details. They're essential to creating a foundation that performs correctly for decades.
When you work with WFC Cary Concrete, you're getting a team that has poured hundreds of slabs throughout Cary and surrounding areas. We know the local soil conditions, understand the permit requirements, and use proven methods that deliver results. Your project gets the same attention to detail whether it's a small shed pad or a full house foundation.
Types of Slab Foundations We Install
Different projects need different foundation approaches. A simple slab-on-grade foundation works well for garages, sheds, and single-story additions. We excavate to the proper depth, install a compacted gravel base, add moisture barriers and insulation if needed, and pour the concrete slab. This type of foundation is cost-effective and appropriate for many residential projects.
For new home construction, we typically install thickened-edge slabs or monolithic slabs with integrated footings. These provide the support needed for load-bearing walls and meet structural requirements for residential building codes. The edges are thicker and reinforced to handle the weight of the structure above.
What Goes Into a Quality Foundation
- Proper excavation to required depth based on frost line and soil conditions
- Compacted aggregate base that won't settle over time
- Moisture barriers to prevent water intrusion from below
- Steel reinforcement (rebar) positioned correctly for maximum strength
- Quality concrete mix with appropriate PSI rating for the application
- Professional finishing and curing to achieve specified strength
We also handle commercial slab work for warehouses, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. These projects often require thicker concrete, heavier reinforcement, and specialized finishes. Our experience with both residential and commercial projects means we understand the different requirements and building codes for each type of work.
Why Foundation Quality Matters
A foundation that settles or cracks creates serious problems. Doors and windows won't close properly. Floors become uneven. Gaps appear in walls. Fixing these issues after the fact costs far more than doing the job correctly from the start. Some foundation problems can't be fully corrected at any price.
Quality foundation work requires proper planning and execution. We start with a site evaluation to identify potential issues. Poor drainage? We'll address it. Weak soil? We'll excavate deeper and install additional base material. Tree roots nearby? We'll work around them or remove them before they cause problems. This upfront work prevents future headaches.
The concrete itself matters too. We use the right mix design for your specific application. Higher strength concrete costs a bit more but provides better long-term performance. We also ensure proper curing, which is when concrete gains most of its strength. Rushing this process weakens the final result.
If you're planning other concrete work like driveways or walkways, we can coordinate everything so your foundation work integrates properly with the rest of your project. This coordination ensures proper drainage, matching appearance, and efficient scheduling.
