The key to lasting results is proper surface preparation. We grind or shot blast the concrete to create the profile needed for coating adhesion. Any existing coatings, sealers, or contaminants must be removed completely. Cracks get filled and repaired. This preparation takes time but determines whether your coating lasts for years or fails prematurely.
What to Expect During Installation
Most garage floor coating projects take 2 to 3 days from start to finish. Day one involves surface preparation, which includes grinding the concrete, cleaning thoroughly, and making any necessary repairs. This is the most critical step. Poor preparation causes coatings to peel or fail regardless of the coating quality or application technique.
Once the surface is properly prepared, we apply the coating system. This typically includes a primer or base coat, color coat with optional decorative flakes, and a clear topcoat for protection and gloss. Each layer needs time to cure before the next goes on. Temperature and humidity affect cure times, so we monitor conditions and adjust timing as needed.
After the final coat, you'll need to stay off the floor for at least 24 hours. Light foot traffic is usually fine after this point, but we recommend waiting 3 to 5 days before driving vehicles on the coating. Full cure takes about a week.
